The Loreley rock in St. Goarshausen, the Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck in Remagen, the geyser in Andernach and Ehrenbretstein Fortress in Koblenz are among the 15 masterpieces between the Rhine and Moselle that with their unique character are cultural highlights in the Rhineland-Palatinate.

In the visitors' centre on the Loreley rock, high above the Rhine and the town of St. Goarshausen, visitors learn the legendary and exciting history of the Rhine Valley, about shipping in old times and today, Rhine Romanticism, nature around the rock and of course about the beautiful Loreley.

There you can see works from Hans Arp, his wife Sophie Taeuber and exhibits on present-day artists and old masters alike.

The geyser on the Rhine island of Namedyer Werth is a special kind of natural spectacle. With a fountain of water reaching 50 to 60 metres into the air, it is the highest cold-water geyser in the world.

The Electoral Palace, ornamental garden on the banks of the Rhine and the romantic old town in Koblenz shine with new splendour since the National Garden Show in 2011. Wine Celebration Weekend

2 nights' stay with breakfast in the disabled accessible guest house

Price per person in a double room from 129 euros, in a single room from 159 euros

The southern Wine Route is an inviting area of the Palatinate with eight holiday regions: Annweiler im Trifelsland, Edenkoben, Bad Bergzaberner Land, Herxheim, Landau-Stadt, Landau-Land, Maikammer and Offenbach. The countryside enchants with its softly rolling hills, meadows, meandering streams, picturesque vineyards and the Palatinate Forest. A landscape gardener was unnecessary for Bavarian King Ludwig I, because from 1846 onwards, he had his summer residence built in the Palatinate. Villa Ludwigshöhe is surrounded by enormous chestnut trees and vines as far as the eyes can see. The structural design was conceptualised by Koblenz architect Friedrich Wilhelm Gärtner, who was one of the most significant architects of the Bavarian kingdom. The interior decor of Villa Ludwigshöhe is influenced by the Pompeian style. The exquisite mosaic floors laid with different types of wood, the ceiling frescos and wall murals as well as the sumptuous furniture from the Munich Leuchtenberg Palais fascinate every visitor. The villa was very cutting edge for its time. This is especially apparent in the spacious kitchen with its hot and cold running water, multiple stoves and even an adjustable grill. Today the Mainz State Museum displays the Max-Slevogt Gallery in the rooms of the villa. The great German impressionist celebrates the beauty of the Palatinate in his paintings.

Services
  • 2 nights in a disabled accessible guest house with breakfast
  • Wine tasting of 6 varieties
  • Entrance to Villa Luwigshöhe
