The Nahe region – Precious stones and excellent wine

The Nahe glitters and gleams. Precious stones and the art of making them into stunning pieces of jewellery is a major focus of this area. The vintners of Nahe are famous for their outstanding wines. The mild climate and the special soil structure combine to make the taste of Nahe wine unmistakeable. The spa towns of Bad Kreuznach, Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg and Bad Sobernheim have enjoyed success with brine springs, radon tunnel therapy and Felke therapy for many years.

The art of jewellery and a Draisin cycle tour in the Glan Valley

In the Precious Stones Museum (Deutsches Edelsteinmuseum) in Idar-Oberstein and the historic Weiherschleife mill just outside the town, visitors can not only admire different precious stones and the artistic jewellery made from them but also watch as agate is cut and polished. Both museums are wheelchair-friendly.

The Puppet Theatre Museum (Museum für PuppenTheaterKultur) in Bad Kreuznach promises visitors a trip through time back to their younger years and offers information in braille plus guided tours for blind and partially-sighted visitors. Walking through the museum, visitors will encounter familiar figures from German childhood, like Käpt'n Blaubär, Hein Blöd, the Hohenstein Punch and other carved puppets.

A tour on Draisin cycles and wheelers through the Glan Valley is a special experience which wheelchair users can also enjoy. The cycles can be propelled by hand and there is ample space for three people. The trip starts in Staudenheim and goes along a disused railway via Meisenheim to Lauterecken to its destination in Altenglan.

Performances in the Karl May Festival are held every year at the open-air theatre in Mörschied against the stunning natural background of the Juchem quarry. The open-air events are accessible for people with disabilities.

The healing power of the brine spring in Bad Kreuznach was already known to the Celts and Romans. The Crucenia Thermal Baths are located at the heart of the listed spa area in Bad Kreuznach on the banks of the Nahe. Visitors can enjoy the warm (33°C) water in two indoor and one outdoor pool.
